Permanent Mold Casting: Understanding Gravity Casting
Gravity die casting is a type of permanent mold casting. Gravity die casting is a process where molten metal is poured into a permanent mold using gravity alone, without any external pressure. It is U-Chance's main business. U-Chance is equipped with vertical and horizontal curved arm gravity casting machines suitable for various production gravity casting molds. Castings with a maximum outer diameter of 120cm can be produced.
Here's a step-by-step overview of gravity die casting:
1. Mold Preparation: The mold, usually made of steel or cast iron, is preheated and coated with a refractory material to prevent the metal from sticking.
2. Pouring: Molten metal is poured into the mold from a ladle. Gravity helps the metal flow into all parts of the mold cavity.
3. Solidification: The metal cools and solidifies in the mold, forming the desired shape.
4. Ejection: Once solidified, the mold is opened, and the casting is removed.
Advantages of gravity-cast aluminum alloy:
- High precision: Castings made by gravity casting have high dimensional accuracy and smooth surfaces, which reduces the need for subsequent processing steps.
- Higher strength: Under the same molten metal pouring conditions, the strength of gravity casting castings is higher than that of sand mold casting, which makes aluminum alloy gravity casting suitable for parts that bear larger loads.
- Good surface quality: The surface of gravity cast castings is relatively smooth and less prone to defects. Thus, it is suitable for products with high appearance requirements.
- High production efficiency: The casting mold made of heat-resistant alloy steel used in gravity casting can be used repeatedly, increasing production efficiency. It is especially suitable for mass production of medium and small castings of non-ferrous metals.
- Reduced Defects: The reduction in porosity and controlled cooling process lead to fewer defects in the finished castings.
